I know only in one occasion where one of the CORPies wrote me telling me that he knew when I had written someone else. There was no way he could have known this unless he had monitored my mail. I probably should have lodged a fomal complaint against him at that time. Back in September I was approached by a new person who made me so suspicious I demanded to know who he was. He admitted he worked for WTV and wanted to study how the Client helped protect the service. I thought his admitting he worked for WTVwould have stopped him fom posting to the NG. But it didn't. When DRY ICE had just invited him into ICE's then new "private" NG. I wrote ICE to warn him. The COPRie wrote me back with knowledge fo that letter. Now maybe this person "only" accessed my sent mail screen and saw the subject line. But how would we ever know? Can a letter be read without it showing up in our cache as read? Can't a letter be accessed before it's tagged with our account's ID #s? I take JG at his word that this is strictly against WTV policy except in cases where laws are beiing violated. That no one really has the resources to monitor so much mail (though suppose computers could be used to look for keywords NSA style). But it all does raise the question of what protections do we have... and how would we (or a supervisor) ever know if our mail had been read? What safeguards are in place? And What would happen to a WTV employee who violates this policy?
